What to wear and bring to a dance photoshoot

This is one of my most frequently asked questions when people book a dance shoot with me! I usually suggest wearing whatever you want photos in - I’m not fussy at all.

However, here are some tips and what I suggest bringing with you to a dance shoot:

1) You’re always welcome to bring a friend and/or a parent/guardian.

2) Avoid wearing white if we’re shooting outdoor and at midday - white leotards and costumes often reflect the lightly unflatteringly during this time.

3) For those of you en pointe, bring a pair of dead pointe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and potentially ruining!

4) Bring a pair of jeans -stretchy jeans are preferred! I find denim really helps the dancer to fit into an urban background and make the photo more “casual”.

5) Bring a big towel, sometimes an outfit change is necessary and there might not be toilets nearby.

6) Bring dance booties to pop over your pointe shoes or bare feet so we can run around without having to take the pointe shoes on and off. Alternatively a pair of shoes or sandals that are easy to slip on or off work perfectly too.

7) Bring a pair of bike shorts just in case it gets super windy or we’re doing some poses that require a little more coverage.

8) Don’t forget to bring water. The photoshoots can be quite fast-paced at times and we need to keep the dancers hydrated and ready to go.
